IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Al
Cooper
February 23, 1960 – February 14, 2025
Mr. James A. Cooper, III, (Al) 64, passed away Friday, February 14, 2025 at his residence. He was born February 23, 1960 in Charleston to James A. Cooper, Jr. and Mary Frances Driskell Cooper. Al was an honor graduate of Kirk Academy, attended Millsaps College, and later graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy in 1984. He later received an MD from the Medical University of the Americas in 2005. Al was a longtime owner of Dyre-Kent Drug Store in Grenada with his father Jim, and the late G. Spivey Kent.
Al was a devoted life-long member of First Methodist Church in Grenada, where he sang in the church choir for almost 50 years and enjoyed service to the less fortunate on many mission trips, both domestic and abroad. Al enjoyed travel, especially with his cigar community friends, Ole Miss sports, spending time with family, and spreading the gospel to any and all through witness, song, or deed. Al was outgoing, caring, generous, and never met a stranger. Most importantly, he was the epitome of a fine Christian gentleman, and will be dearly missed by the many people who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at First Methodist Church in Grenada on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Daniel Herring officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot in the Charleston City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30 – 7:00 PM Monday evening at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at First Methodist Church.
Survivors include his father, Jim Cooper of Grenada; brother Ken Cooper (Holly) of Memphis, TN; nephew Casey Cooper and niece Mary Margaret Cooper both of Memphis, TN; uncle William (Margaret) Cooper of Bartlett, TN; special cousin Kay Nesbit (Tim) of Foley, AL; and numerous cousins whom he loved dearly.
Al was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mrs. Mary Frances Driskell Cooper.
