After a long battle with peripheral arterial disease, A. E. (Gene) Harlow, Sr. departed this life on the 17 th of October, 2017 with family at his side. He is survived by his wife, Madelyn S. Harlow, his son the Hon. A. E. (Rusty) Harlow, Jr. (Amy), his son Ret. Col. William Michael Harlow (Darla), and Jennifer Harlow Miller (Brian).
He is also survived by Grandchildren Michael and Kathryn Cox, Blake and Casey Andrews, Lawson and Beth Harlow, Christian and Molly Johnston, Hannah Miller, Rosemary Miller, Emaline Miller, Hopestill Miller, Jake Manuele, Patrick Manuele and Elizabeth Manuele and three great grandchildren, Rafe and Mary Austin Andrews, Camden Cox.
Gene Harlow, as he was known to his friends, was born in Webster County, Mississippi, on August 16, 1940. He graduated from John Rundle High School (Grenada) in 1958. He then attended Delta State University where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. He pursued this degree after serving in the United State Army from 1960 – 1961 and then serving in the reserves and National Guard from 1961- 1965.
After a period of time working in the insurance industry Gene returned to Grenada, Mississippi, where he operated a small insurance claims service while he attended Law School at the University of Mississippi. He graduated in December of 1975 and began his practice there in Grenada. He enjoyed his practice and representing individuals and the relationships created in that process.
He practiced there until his retirement in 2011. During his adult life, he served as the Municipal Judge in Grenada for several years. He also helped found the current Booster club for Grenada High School in about 1979. He took great pleasure late in life in coordinating his high school reunions, including its 50 th class reunion.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday, October 19, 2017 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service with Rev. Lawson Harlow officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Thursday at McKibben and Guinn.
