Obituary

Mrs. Alma Carter Brandon, 90, a beloved member of the Coffeeville Community, passed away Monday, August 26, 2024 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi in Oxford.  She was born June 24, 1934 in Big Creek the 7th of 10 children to Quincy and Pearl Whitworth Carter.  Alma worked for many years at Kellwood as a payroll and shipping clerk.  A devoted homemaker, she was committed to always making her house feel like a home.  Mrs. Brandon was a dedicated member of the Coffeeville Methodist Church for over 60 years and was the oldest member on the church roll.  Mrs. Alma loved Coffeeville Methodist Church. She was a faithful member of the Adult Sunday School Class, Keenagers, and Methodist Women. Alma left a lasting legacy by lovingly helping to nurture and raise generations of children in the church nursery. And she was always quick to volunteer to bring one of her famous pound cakes or another delicious dish to any gathering.  Mrs. Alma enjoyed reading, working all kinds of word puzzles and sudoku, watering and caring for her yard and flowers. She enjoyed finding new recipes as well as ones that had passed down from her mother and sisters. She was an excellent cook and served many tasty treats to her family and friends. She had a vast library of recipes as well as cookbooks from the past. She was a keeper of many treasured family heirlooms that had been passed from her close-knit family circle. In her spare time, she would reminisce with many of her cherished photograph boxes and albums that she kept and held so dear to heart.  Alma's witty sense of humor and love for life will be greatly missed.   While she certainly did leave her mark in this world, her impact as a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ was paramount to her.  Her zest for life, encouraging attitude and loving spirit were all contagious – she lived her life in service to others.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Thursday, August 29, 2024 at the Coffeeville Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Peterman and Rev. Sherman Barnette officiating.  Interment will follow in the Coffeeville Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service Thursday at the church.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Brandon Graham(Keith) of Hernando; son, Carter Allen Brandon(Merrill Meeks) of Coffeeville; three grandchildren, Brandon Graham, James Graham and Ava Marie Peeples and four great-grandchildren, Harrison Graham, Lillian Graham, Rosalee Graham and James Thomas Graham.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack Brandon; sisters, Mary Alice Carpenter, Syble Marter, Wilma Carter, Martha McCormick, Faye Collins and Janell Jarrell; and brothers, Bobby Jack Carter, Frank Carter and Gerald Carter.
