Mrs. Alma Clanton, 90, of Grenada, passed away peacefully Friday, December 2, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born October 7, 1926 in Kilmichael to William Jefferson and Odie Catherine Waters McDaniel. She was a homemaker and a member of Enon Baptist Church in Grenada. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother affectionately known as Granny to many in the community.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church in Webster County. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time Tuesday at the church.
Survivors include her daughter, Sherry Woods and her husband, Larry of Grenada; one son, Robert Clanton of Hattiesburg; one brother, Jeff R. McDaniel and his wife, Pat of Hattiesburg; two granddaughters, Scarlett Johnston and her husband, Brent of Madison and Jessica Ramsay and her husband, Jon of Madison; one grandson, Ben Clanton of Houma, LA; seven great-grandchildren, Gaiea Clanton, Jaden Clanton, Trey Johnston, Jesse Johnston, Rhett Ramsay, Eva Catherine Ramsay and Clayton Ramsay; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jesse R. Clanton, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Benjamin and Clydie Clanton; two sisters, Mildred McDaniel Dukes and Thelma McDaniel Jenkins; and three brothers, William McDaniel, Fada Lee McDaniel and Edward McDaniel.
Memorials may be directed to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering at First Baptist Church in Grenada or to the Gideons.
