Obituary

Anne Aldridge Branch passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on June 30, 2026.  She was born Dorothy Anne Aldridge in Greenwood, Mississippi, on April 18, 1930. Anne grew up in Duck Hill, Mississippi, and often told stories of the fun she had with her two younger sisters and many cousins. As a graduate of Binford High School, she went on to graduate from Mississippi State College for Women and later earned a Master of Education from Louisiana State University.

On August 19, 1951, Anne married Don Romeo Branch (DR) in Utica, Mississippi. They spent the first eight years of their marriage on the family farm, where DR farmed and Anne taught school. For DR’s career, they moved throughout the South and eventually settled in Kenner, Louisiana. Anne created a loving home and was actively involved in supporting her sons and their many endeavors. She designed and taught a popular class called “Bachelor Survival” at Bonnabel High School in Metairie, bringing home economics to an all-boys school.

Anne’s faith was central to her life. She became a Christian in 1938, was baptized in a local creek, and joined Duck Hill Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School until her late 80s and participated in greeting card outreach and the Women’s Ministry.  Anne and DR retired in Jackson, Mississippi. After Don’s passing in 2006, Anne enjoyed several more years in Jackson, spending time with her sisters, until she moved to Huntersville, North Carolina, to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren will always remember how she made each of them feel special. An accomplished seamstress, she made beautiful outfits for them and loved cooking their favorite meals and desserts. Family was the joy of her life. We were all blessed by the years we shared together — family trips, celebrations, and especially Christmas. Anne was deeply loved, and we will forever treasure the time we had with her.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Virginia Aldridge; her beloved husband of 56 years, Don R. Branch; an infant daughter; her sister, Lillian Lee; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Lee and Elmo Branch. She is survived by her three sons: Don (Linda) of Pinehurst, North Carolina; William (Leslie) of Laurel, Maryland; and David (Cynthia) of Huntersville, North Carolina; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her sister, Yancey (Jogene) Hand of Canton, Mississippi; her sister-in-law, Jamie Branch of Brandon, Mississippi; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Duck Hill Baptist Church on July 14th at 11:00 AM.  Interment will follow in the Duck Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Duck Hill Baptist Church.

Memorial contributions can be made in her honor to: Sevya Homes, 105 Mainview Dr, Mooresville, NC 28117 or to the Duck Hill Baptist Church, 301 Main St, Duck Hill, MS 38925.
