Mr. Aubrey Carter, 88, of Grenada, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at his residence. He was born January 13, 1931 in Lawton, OK to John Aubrey and Alma Overton Carter. Mr. Carter retired as Manager of Otasco in Grenada and was a devoted and faithful member of the Southside Church of Christ. He was a lifetime member of the Grenada Area Chamber of Commerce and had previously been a member of the Grenada Jaycees. Mr. Carter devoted much of his time to the Grenada Exchange Club and was the recipient of the "Book of Golden Deeds", the club's highest honor. An accomplished athlete, Mr. Carter was on the 1949 Chickasha High School Football Team, the only team in the school's history to have an undefeated year. Mr. Carter's devotion to the youth of the community was unwavering by his service to the Grenada Youth League. GYL honored him in recent years by naming the street that runs through the park "Aubrey Carter Drive". He was also recognized in previous years as an honorary high school baseball coach at Grenada High School.
Funeral services will be held at half-past eleven o'clock Friday, August 30, 2019 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service. Malcom Grant and Bro. Joey Gafford will officiate and eulogies will be offered by Hayes Carter, Bruce Carter, Jan Carter Smith and Anita Carter Turner. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time Friday at McKibben and Guinn.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Ruth Mathews Carter; two daughters, Jan Carter Smith(Mike) and Anita Carter Turner(Kenny) both of Grenada; one son, Bruce Carter, Sr.(Mary Gay) of Ruston, LA; seven grandchildren, Tracy Mitchell(Rob), Bruce Dale Carter, Jr., Hayes Carter(Paige), Tim Turner(Lori), Ken Turner(Memrie), Sean Turner(Taylor) and Mathew Carter; and eight great-grandchildren, Reynolds Carter, Abby Jo Carter, Joey Ruth Turner, Jaxon Turner, Aubrey Turner, Cassidy Turner, Landon Turner and Aiden Turner.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Joe Carter; one sister, Ruby Zuelzer; and two brothers, Ed and Arnold Carter.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Carter, Jr., Hayes Carter, Mathew Carter, Reynolds Carter, Aiden Turner, Jaxon Turner, Ken Turner, Landon Turner, Sean Turner and Tim Turner.
