Mrs. Barbara Lynn Marter Lane, 77, of Grenada, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born November 6, 1946 in Grenada to James Herbert (JH) and Syble Carter Marter. Barbara worked for many years at Pennaco Hosiery in Grenada and spent the latter part of her career working with the North Central Mississippi Planning and Development District and taking care of her angel girl, Mary Carter. Barbara was a devoted church musician and played her first hymn in a church service when she was in the First Grade. Barbara served as a pianist and organist at the churches where she was a member. An active and devoted member of Friendship Baptist Church, she not only was involved in the music ministry, but also served as church hostess for many years. Her devotion to the Lord and her church was unwavering. Barbara was deeply devoted to her family and will long be remembered for the delicious meals she prepared and the love that went in to preparing them.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, January 21, 2024 at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Sherman Barnette officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park in Grenada. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time Sunday at Friendship Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Purvis Lane; son, Terry Lane of Grenada; her angel girl, Mary Carter Barnette of Grenada; and a sister, Linda Barnette(Sherman) of Grenada.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers will be Carter Brandon, Chip Graham, Ricky Koonce, Samy McCracken, Stanley McDonald and Steve Thomas. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Landon DuBard, Donnie Hodges, Billy Meredith, Hunter Smith and Bobby White.
