Obituary

Barbara Jean Woody (Merriam), of Naubinway, Michigan, passed away on February 25, 2026, in Grenada, Mississippi, surrounded by family.

Born June 9, 1950 in Manistique, Michigan, to Frederick “Merle” Merriam and Joyce Merriam, Barbara devoted her life to her family. She spent many years as a stay-at-home mother before working as a Certified Nursing Assistant and later as a cook and waitress, serving others in her community.

Barbara enjoyed crocheting, reading books, and spent many hours painting ceramics. Her handmade ceramic pieces and crocheted blankets will remain cherished by those who knew and loved her.

She was a proud member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

Barbara is survived by her children, Teresa (Mardy) Murphy, Michael (Ceara) Woody, and Amanda (Scott) Doll; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Louise Harris (Merriam), Merle Merriam, and Leona Skonberg (Merriam), and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, “Merle” and Joyce Merriam, and her brother, Lyle Merriam.

A private memorial and celebration of life will take place in Naubinway, Michigan this summer.

She was deeply loved and will be remembered always.
