Mr. William Alfred "Bill" Wilson, 84, of Grenada, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2020 at his residence. He was born April 29, 1936 in Coffeeville to Byron Festus and Vester Virginia Melton Wilson. Bill was a graduate of Coffeeville High School, Northwest Junior College and Mississippi State University. Bill spent the first few years of his working life as a Vocational Agriculture teacher in the Kemper County Schools. He later accepted a position with the Farmers Home Administration where he spent over 35 years ultimately retiring as a County Supervisor in Calhoun County. Bill honorably served our country as a Military Policeman in the US Army. He was an active and devoted member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where he served in several capacities including Deacon. Bill was gifted with a beautiful singing voice and served as Minister of Music at several area churches as well as leading music in revival services through the years. He was also involved in the work of the Gideons and the VFW.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at the Elam Cemetery with Rev. Truman Scarborough and Rev. J. Barry Worrell officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday evening at McKibben and Guinn.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Esther Rose Jones Wilson; three daughters, Suzanne Dees(Shane) of Thomastown, Selena Dunn(Patrick) of Brandon and Stephanie Shankle of Grenada; seven grandchildren, Holly Harkins, Ashlyn Evans, Wilson Dunn, Haley Oakes, Elizabeth Shankle, Cody Shankle and Will Shankle; and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mattie Alice Peeples.
Pallbearers will be Shane Dees, Patrick Dunn, Wilson Dunn, Zach Evans, Cory Harkins, Anthony Oakes, Cody Shankle, Mike Shankle and Will Shankle.
Memorials may be directed to Emmanuel Baptist Church, Gideons International or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
