Mr. Billy Lee Harris died August 27, 2017 at the age of 81. He was born March 24, 1936 to Jimmy and Sallie Harbin Harris. He was a member of Hardy Baptist Chuch since he was 14 years old. He was a Deacon for 54 years and served in many different positions in the church. He retired from Pennaco Hosiery after 45 years. He was a member of the American Association of Textiles, Chemists and Colorists. During his 45 years in the hosiery business, he traveled to many mills in the U.S. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and woodworking. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Douglas; brothers, Barclay(Vera), Hayden and Edgar. He was also preceded in death by his son, Billy Michael Harris; a grandson, Christopher Micheal Harris, and a son-in-law, Louis T. Weir, III. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Hazel Simmons Harris; his daughter, Alethea Sue Harris Weir; his sons, James Rickey Harris (Sheri) and Jimmy Silas Harris (JoAnn), his beloved daughter-in-law, Carol Hamilton Harris and a special adopted daughter, Nancy Hamilton, all of Grenada. He leaves his five grandchildren, Justin Harris (Lacey), Keith Harris (Candice), Jonathan Harris (Krystle), Katherine Brewer (Erin), and Kevin Harris (Elizabeth). He also leaves his eight precious great-grandchildren, Ella, Keri, Martha Kate, Kaylee, Sophia, Xander, Weston and Krislyn, as well as one on the way. He also leaves two sisters-in-law, Earline Harris and Elizabeth Harris of Memphis. He also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews. He would like to be remembered as someone who loved everybody.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 29, 2017 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Friendship Baptist Church in Grenada with Brother James Melton officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
