Mrs. Bonnie Merchant Austin, 90, of Grenada, passed away Friday, July 14, 2017 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center – Grenada. She was born October 23, 1926 to James and Susie Bennett Merchant. She was a retired schoolteacher having worked in the Grenada School System for over 25 years. Bonnie was a member of First Baptist Church in Grenada for over 65 years and enjoyed singing in the choir. She also enjoyed sewing, reading and tatting. Bonnie also found great enjoyment in raising English Shepherd dogs for many years.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Grace Baptist Church in Grenada with Rev. Kevin Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in the Oddfellows Cemetery in Grenada. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service Sunday at the church.

Survivors include two sons, Hugh Austin and his wife, Ryan of Grenada and Paul Austin and his wife, Debbie of Clarksville, TN; two sisters, Sue Tatum of Morton, MS and Mary Ellen Mathis of Melbourne, FL; one brother, Bennett Merchant of Morton, MS; and three grandchildren, Dan Austin of Starkville, Jennifer Main and her husband, Taylor of Oxford and Andrew Austin of Clarksville, TN and a special friend, Pearlene Liddell.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Hulon Cade Austin.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Austin, Dan Austin, David Jefcoat, Taylor Main, Keith Mitchell and Joseph Roberts.
