August 19, 1943 – February 3, 2022
Mr. Irvin Reeves "Buster" Tipton, 78, a native of Lafite, LA, a long time resident of Donaldsonville, LA passed away peacefully at his home in Tillatoba, Mississippi, on Thursday, February 3, 2022 surrounded by his wife and children. He was born August 19, 1943 to James Reeves and Victoria Creppel Tipton. Buster honorably and proudly served our country for 4 years in the US Navy as a Meteorologist, "Hurricane Hunter" during the Vietnam War. When he completed his military service, he joined the New Orleans Police Department where he was part of the Mounted Division. Upon moving to Donaldsonville, LA he spent the remainder of his working years as a Process Operator at both Melamine Chemical and Rubicon Chemical Companies. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Grenada, MS for the last 3 1/2 years, St. Joseph The Worker in Pierre Part, LA for 10 years and Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Donaldsonville, LA for 39 years. Buster was an avid fisherman who also loved to hunt and spend time outdoors. He loved to be surrounded by his family, friends, and especially his grandkids where he would entertain them with his life stories and his singing. Buster was a sweet and gentle man who never met a stranger. He leaves behind a legacy of adventure, strength and a great love for life and family and deep faith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Catherine Mistretta Tipton; one daughter, Caryn T. Daigle (Steve Furlow) of Pierre Part, LA; son, Michael Reeves Tipton (Annette) of Tillatoba, MS; brother, Gustavo Oliva (Eva) of Osyka, MS; and six grandchildren, Austin Reeves Tipton, Joshua Michael Tipton (Sarah), Ethan Charles Tipton, Seth Allen Daigle (Carley), Sera Catherine Daigle and Sophie Marie Daigle; and one great grandson Leo Thomas Tipton and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Ascension of our Lord Catholic Church in Donaldsonville, LA. Entombment will follow in the Ascension of our Lord Catholic Church Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 9:00 PM Monday, February 7, 2022 at Ourso Funeral Home, 134 Houmas Street, Donaldsonville, LA 70346 and on Tuesday morning, February 8th from 8:30 AM to 10:45 AM at the church.
