June 26, 1944 – August 29, 2019
Mr. Veldon Allen "Butch" Chapman, 75, of Holcomb, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2019 at his residence. He was born June 26, 1944 in Grenada County to Eula Washington and Courtney Cunningham Chapman. Butch had honorably served our country in the US Navy at the White Sands Missile Range, aboard the USS Shasta and at the Bay of Pigs. Following his military service, he enjoyed a long, successful career with the National Park Service retiring as a Supervisor after 32 years. He also served as the East Coast Emergency Operations Office with the Park Service. Upon retirement back to Mississippi, he worked as a Deputy Sheriff and Dispatcher for the Leflore County Sheriff's Department. He was of the Baptist Faith.
A gathering to celebrate his life will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 PM Sunday, September 1, 2019 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Chapman; one daughter, Jennifer Ann Ingram of Rosebloom; one son, Matthew Allen Chapman of Holcomb; one sister, Sue Clark of Holcomb; one brother, Robert Earl Chapman of Arizona; and a grandson, Jonah Ingram.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Martin Allen Chapman; three sisters, Mable Martin, Janie Wood and Lillie Mae Perkins; and two brothers, Mardis and E.W. Chapman.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the charity of the donor's choice.
