Obituary

Carla J. Sinquefield Duke, age 58, went home to see her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 3, 2019. She was born on September 15, 1961 in McComb, MS.  during hurricane Carla and was thus named.  Her late parents, Richard and Carolyn Sinquefield, had figured she would be a boy so were very surprised. She was the baby of the family and gave us much laughter at her shenanigans. Carla grew up in Senatobia, MS. where she was the delight of all the ladies on Ward St., where she participated in High Tea with Mrs. Lamar and Mrs. Walker. She learned to curl her little finger at a very early age.

Carla had four siblings, Donnie, Rickie, Little Paul (who went to see Jesus before Carla was born), and her favorite sister, Karen,  whom she shared a room with for many years.

Carla moved from Senatobia to Winona at age 7.  She graduated from Winona High School and attended Holmes Jr. College and Mississippi State where she made many life- long friends that she loved dearly. She was majoring in Journalism and was a very talented writer.

After the death of her father, she moved to Grenada, MS with her mother and there, met the love of her life, Alan Duke. They became engaged and married at Faith Fellowship Church and settled in Grenada amongst a bunch of their cousins and kinfolk. While there, her mother, Carolyn, went to see her Lord and Savior.

Alan and Carla started their family, with the birth of Jacob Cody Duke and then Caroline Alana Duke (Callie) who were the apples of her eyes and brought her much joy. They got the call to move West and moved to Ft. Worth, TX, where Carla went to work for the Ft. Worth Star Telegram where she did the obituaries. She made many friends there and worked until her health problems caused early retirement.

Carla had a huge ministry on Facebook and made many friends who loved her and supported her ministry, and during her illness prayed faithfully for her.  She also had a huge fur family and simply adored each one of them. She also was known as the Crazy Flamingo lady of Kay Street.

Her family and her huge extended family that includes a passel of kin folk that she loved, will miss her, especially the Sisters of her Heart. But we know that she is having the time of her life with her Savior and everyone that has gone on before her. She is waiting on us to join her in that wonderful Heavenly Home.  She would be the first to tell you about Jesus and all the Joy you will find in him.

This obituary is written by her favorite sister, and I hope you can feel just how special our sister was.  And she would be very happy with this non- traditional obituary… or obit as it is known in the trade.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 7, 2019 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service with Rev. Bennie Vance and Rev. Clarence Tilghman officiating. Interment will follow in the Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Saturday at McKibben and Guinn.
