Carolyn Hill Rose, 94, of Holcomb, passed away on October 16, 2026, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Greenwood. She was born January 9, 1932, in Holcomb to Jimmie Bernice Hill and Melnot Stokes Hill. Carolyn was the oldest of three children. She graduated from Holcomb High School, where she met her beloved husband, Charles William “Bill” Rose. She worked for many years as an administrative assistant at Deposit Guaranty National Bank. After her retirement, she prepared Wednesday night dinners at First Baptist Church in Greenwood.
Carolyn was known for her kind spirit and her love for others, which she often expressed through her cooking. The Rose home was rarely empty, except on Sundays during church services, and she much preferred it that way. Anyone who walked through her door was sure to be greeted with a warm smile and asked whether they had eaten yet. She was happiest when her guests were gathered in the living room with full stomachs, and she never missed an opportunity to share her recipes.
Whether playing her weekly bridge games, baking her renowned pound cake, or watching the hummingbirds outside her kitchen window, Carolyn cherished every moment. She took great pride in her garden, which was always bountiful with tomatoes, blueberries, and plums. She could often be found outside pruning her fig trees, and if you were lucky, you might have gone home with a jar of her delicious preserves.
Above all else, Carolyn’s faith guided her life. Firm in her convictions, she remained steadfast in her devotion to Jesus Christ. She faced every challenge with determination, prayer, and the Lord by her side. She was a member of St. John’s Methodist Church in Greenwood for many years before becoming a cherished member of Sparta Church in Holcomb, where she taught Sunday school, attended Bible study, and enjoyed singing hymns during weekly services.
She was a devoted wife and matriarch who shared her wisdom with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. No matter the distance or how busy life became, she always made time for a daily phone call. One of her greatest joys was gathering her family together to celebrate the holidays.
She is survived by her husband, Charles William “Bill” Rose of Holcomb; sister, Mary Woods Hobgood of Grenada; sons, Mike Rose of Greenwood and Jay Rose (Terrell) of Carroll County; daughters, Amber Rose of Jackson and Nancy Rose of Trenton, North Carolina; thirteen grandchildren; and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Charles William “Bubba” Rose, Jr.; and brother, Jimmie S. Hill.
The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to Golden Age Nursing Home for the wonderful care Carolyn received.
A graveside service to honor Carolyn’s remarkable life will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 18, 2026 at the Sparta Cemetery near Holcomb with Rev. Ben Butler and Rev. James McElroy officiating.
