IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Christine Allbritton
Wright
July 8, 1924 – June 14, 2020
Ida Christine Allbritton Wright passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 14, 2020, just 24 days before her 96 th birthday. She sustained injuries in a fall at home and was transferred to UMMC-Grenada where her children and grandchildren stayed by her side until she made the move to her eternal home.
Christine was born in Cascilla, Mississippi on July 8, 1924 where she and Edward (Buddy) raised their three daughters and worshiped at North Shady Grove Church of God. In 1973, they sold the farm and moved to Grenada to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. From that time on, Sister Christine has been a go-to prayer warrior at the Grenada Church of God.
It simply was not possible to know her and not adore her. She foremost loved God, and lived her faith to the fullest every single day. If she said she'd pray for you, she did and not just once. Within the family, we said you had better be sure you want it if you ask Mamaw to pray for it. She loved all her family and friends as Jesus commanded and she never let you leave without a hug and seldom empty handed. If she wasn't ironing for some of her favorites, you would find her working outside usually with hoe in hand. She enjoyed her flowers and often said they reminded her of her own mom.
Christine was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry and Ida Kendall; husband of 53 years, Clarence Edward Allbritton; husband of 3 years, Willie Wright; a daughter, Peggy Christine Martin; a son-in-law, Earnest Ferrell Heath; a bonus son, James Wright; and a grandson, Alvin Shane Gordon, in addition to all 10 of her siblings and a long list of other family and friends.
Christine is survived by several generations including daughters, Joyce Heath Gaston Buice (Howard) of Grenada, MS and Pauline Gordon (A.D.) of Senatobia, MS; bonus sons, Mike Wright (Louise) and Bill Wright (Peggy) all of Louisville, KY ; grandchildren Tracy Gaston Forrest (Charlie) of Starkville, MS, John Dale Gordon of Alabama, Rose Heath McCurdy (Kevin) of Eads, TN, Hope Heath Dykes (Scott) of Grenada, MS; Mandy Grant Young of Grenada, MS, and Britton Dale Gordon (Allie) of Sarah, MS; great-grandchildren Christi Herring Smith (Rob) of Columbus, MS, Amber Herring Bailey (Cody) of Grenada, MS, Emilee Adeline McCurdy of Fort Worth, TX (fiancé Paul Waldrop of Phenix City, AL), Heath Edward McCurdy of Memphis, TN, Madison Grace Gordon of Sarah, MS, Layton Seth Tharpe of Water Valley, MS, Anna Elizabeth Gordon of Sarah, MS, Tyler Edward Gordon of Senatobia, MS, Lanna Christine Tharpe of Water Valley, MS, Britton Gordon, Jr, Evan Shane Gordon, and Graycee Mae Gordon all of Sarah, MS; great-great grandchildren Douglas Lane Bailey of Grenada, MS, Brylee Christine Smith of Columbus, MS, and Michael David Bailey of Grenada, MS.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 17, from 5pm to 7pm and Thursday, June 18, from 1pm to 2pm at McKibben & Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada. In accordance with her wishes, the Reverends James McElroy and Frank Samples will officiate the celebration of her life at 2pm on Thursday, June 18, in the McKibben & Guinn chapel. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
If you prefer, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Grenada Church of God in her memory.
