Obituary

Mr. Daniel Ray "Danny" Lancaster, 62, of Duck Hill, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Grenada. He was born October 31, 1952 in Grenada to Archie Devere and Gladys Colston Lancaster.

Danny was an accomplished musician and songwriter having played in a band since he was eleven years old. He played a variety of instruments including the piano, organ, guitar and bass. He is credited as being the bass guitar player for the Sugar Cube Blues Band in 1967. In 1968, he was the writer of "Look What We Have Joined Together" which was a Top 10 song nationally with the Sugar Blues Band. He was also one of the founding members of the Sassy Jones Band and had played many regional blues festivals as well as several in Europe. Danny had the privilege of playing with many band members of well-known groups such as the Rolling Stones, Joe Cocker, Mad Dogs and Englishman, Eric Clapton, Greg Allman and a host of others.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Duck Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Butch Ward and Rev. Tim Buchanan officiating. Interment will follow in the Duck Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Survivors include his mother, Gladys C. Lancaster of Duck Hill; one sister, Tammy Vance and her husband, Bubba of Grenada; one brother, Devo Lancaster and his wife, Rosemary of Grenada; two nieces, Leslie Lancaster and Abby Ray Vance, both of Grenada.
