Obituary

Mrs. Darlene Waldo Cooper, 73, of Brandon, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024 at her residence.  She was born June 22, 1950 to T.J. and Tressie Collins Waldo.  Darlene attended Clarke College and faithfully served alongside her husband, Dr. Clarence Cooper, Jr., having spent over 50 years in Southern Baptist Churches across the Mid-South including Keownville Baptist Church in New Albany, Mary's Chapel Baptist Church in Ripley, TN, New Liberty Baptist Church in Vardaman, Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada and at Brandon Baptist Church in Brandon.  Darlene worked as a ministry assistant at Emmanuel Baptist Church during Dr. Cooper's pastorate there and most recently enjoyed serving with the Brandon Baptist Church kitchen ministry.  She also enjoyed numerous mission trips through the years to Cuba, Japan, Thailand, Peru, Brazil and other points across the world.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Brandon Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Richardson, Rev. Huey Dedmon, Rev. Steve Stone and Rev. Gayden Harrell.  The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service Tuesday at the church.  The committal service will follow at 3:00 PM Tuesday at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Grenada with Rev. Craig Baker officiating.

Survivors include her daughter, daughter, Amy Cooper Harbison and her husband, David of Madison, AL; son, Clarence Cooper, III of Memphis, TN; sister, Mary Byford of Coffeeville; brother, Chappell Waldo(Cathy) of Grenada;  grandson, Cooper Harbison of Oxford and granddaughter, Allie Harbison of Birmingham AL.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. Clarence Cooper, Jr.; brother, J.W. Waldo; brother-in-law, James Byford and great-nephew, Cody Byford.

Pallbearers in Brandon will be Lamar Adair, Richard Heaslip, Vernon Johnson, Gary LaRose, Steve Rachel and Lyle Tate.  Pallbearers in Grenada will be Johnny Byford, Jimmy Byford, Gary Byford, Barry Baker, Max Benoist and Brandon Harrison.
