IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dean
Logan
March 2, 1933 – November 22, 2017
Horace Dean Logan, 84, of Grenada, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2017, while deer hunting near Leflore, Mississippi, with his wife Minnie at his side.
Dean was born in the Murphreesboro Community of Tallahatchie County on March 2, 1933, attending school there, and spending his youth in that area. In July 1952, he married Agnes Smith of Cascilla, and left the family farm and moved to Grenada, Mississippi to live and work. Dean and Agnes raised their family in the tight knit Airport Community, and were members of Airport Baptist Church. In later years, he attended Friendship Baptist Church.
Dean was a very loyal, trusted, and hard working employee for Graeber Brothers Propane (20 years) and McQuay/Heatcraft (23 years). During his work career, he built many lasting relationships, great friends, and the respect of everyone that worked with him. His work ethic and honesty left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Due to his Depression-Era upbringing, he was determined to provide his family with a better life. He was very much a dedicated family man, and worked hard to convey strong personal and professional values to his children and grandchildren.
Dean was an avid outdoorsman, and greatly enjoyed spending endless hours with his friends and family, either hunting, fishing, or working on countless projects together. He was also very interested in local history and genealogy, and enjoyed researching and discussing these topics.
As his wife Agnes' health failed, Dean served as a compassionate caregiver for several years for her, assuring she received the best care possible. He later married Minnie Rutledge, and she has been a wonderful companion and devoted wife for the last 20 years.
Dean is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Gordon Logan and Daisy Coleman Logan; his wife of 42 years, Agnes Smith Logan; one son, Hershel Dean Logan; two brothers, Harvey Logan, Jr. and Gordon Logan; and one sister, Edna Young Knight.
Dean will be greatly missed by his survivors: wife, Minnie Logan and her daughter Debra Reese (Paul) and grandchildren; one daughter Cheryl (Ray) Harville and one son, Ben (Jeannie) Logan, both of Grenada; two brothers, Larry Logan and Jerry Logan, both of Grenada; one sister, Yvonne Hitt of Eupora; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews from the Logan and Smith families.
Pallbearers will be Jason Logan, Jeremy Harville, Roger Morris, Rodney Pollan, Jason Smith, and Adam Holland. Honorary Pallbearers are Randy Pollan and John Moorman.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, November 27, 2017 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Sunday evening and one hour prior to the service Monday at McKibben and Guinn.
