February 10, 1940 – November 15, 2019
Mr. Julian Gray "Doc" Bloom, 79, of Holcomb, passed away Friday, November 15, 2019 at his residence. He was born February 10, 1940 in Oxberry to Rev. Johnny and Grace Blankenship Bloom. Doc joined the United States Air Force at the age of 17. He served 4 years total which included 3 years in Italy. He served his country proudly and remained very patriotic for the remainder of his life. Once discharged Doc obtained his commercial pilot's license and flew for many years. Doc was employed by Rockwell International at the age of 21. He retired in 1995. Many knew Doc for his wit. He always had a funny joke or story to share. He will be remembered for his strong faith, his love of Elvis and Marty Robbins, and his devotion to the town of Holcomb. He will be missed as folks passing his home won't see his smile and wave from the front porch.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, November 18, 2019 at Holcomb Baptist Church with Dr. Thad Moore and Rev. Kevin Tribble officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethel Cemetery at Oxberry. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Bloom; one son, Greg Bloom of Grenada; one brother, John A. Bloom of Southaven; a granddaughter, Sara Bloom of Houston, TX; a step-son, Jimmy Whitten(Cindy) of Cascilla; a step-daughter, Mary Kay Ramsey of Hardy and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dorothy Maxey and Shirley McKee; and two brothers, Jerry W. Bloom, Sr. and Charles R. Bloom.
Pallbearers will be Lensy Allen, Mike Hoop, Mitt Kilgore, Garet Love, Luther Owens and Johnny Whitten.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
