Mr. Edwin Harold Merriman, Sr., 95, of Grenada, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at his residence. He was born June 9, 1920 in Oklahoma to Joe and Gretta Pennington Merriman. Mr. Merriman honorably served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps, he had attained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant at the time of his discharge. Mr. Merriman had served as the State Commander of the American Legion in Mississippi. He and his family are active members of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Grenada where he was instrumental in the formation of the Knights of Columbus Council 10443. He had been involved in the Knights of Columbus since 1962. Mr. Merriman was a member of the Grenada Lions Club for 45 years where he had been awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. He had also previously served on the board of directors of the Grenada Country Club.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Monday, March 7, 2016 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Grenada. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 PM Sunday evening at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Rosemary C. Merriman; three daughters, Linda Kay Vaughn of Ridgeland, Jennifer Lou Ivy (Dub) of Florence and Margaret Ann Wimberley (Randy) of Grenada; two sons, Ronald J. Merriman, Sr., (Barbara) and Patrick H. Merriman, both of Grenada; a daughter-in-law, Martha Merriman of Grenada; one sister, Bernice M. Sanderson of Edmond, OK; one brother, Robert J. Merriman of Oklahoma City, OK; ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Edwin Harold "Eddie" Merriman, Jr. and a sister, Audrey Carter.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Forrest, Scott Forrest, Hal Merriman, John Lake Merriman, Joey Merriman and Patrick Merriman.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Joe Messina along with Tabitha Fant and Tamila Shear with Halcyon Hospice for the excellent care provided to Mr. Merriman.
