Robbie Eliese Dunn Estes, age 88, of Holcomb, died Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Grace Health and Rehab in Grenada.
Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Monday, July 31, 2017 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Sparta United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Cannizzaro officiating. Burial will follow in the Sparta Cemetery.
Mrs. Estes was born on May 1, 1929, to Marshall and Louise Dunn in the Grenada Hospital owned by Dr. J.K. Avent. Mrs. Estes graduated valedictorian from Holcomb High School on May 17, 1947. After high school graduation, Mrs. Estes entered Wood Junior College in Mathiston, MS. She graduated on May 12, 1949. After graduating from Wood Jr., Mrs. Estes worked in a Methodist Youth Camp during the summer of 1949, in Indianola, Iowa, Warren County. In September 1950, Mrs. Estes entered Millsaps College. During the summer of 1950, she again worked with youth in a Methodist work camp in Prudee, IN. Mrs. Estes graduated in August 1951, from Millsaps College with a degree in Religious Studies and Education.
During the 1950-51 school year, Mrs. Estes taught school in Belden, Lee County. During her time there she met and married her husband, Jap Wade Estes on November 17, 1951. They were blessed with 41 years of marriage. In January 1952, Jap and Eliese moved to Detroit, Michigan for 2 ½ years. In 1955, they bought the farm in Holcomb, MS, and moved back to the country to raise their family.
Mrs. Estes had 40 years of teaching service to children in Belden, Lee County, Duck Hill, Philip, Greenwood and Grenada.
Mrs. Estes was a member of Sparta United Methodist Church, Holcomb, MS. She also enjoyed serving as the church historian for Sparta Church. Mrs. Estes taught the adult Sunday School Class for 40 plus years. Mrs. Estes was a member of the Jefferson Homemaker's Club where she taught Bible Study Lessons, and held activities for the ladies. Mrs. Estes also enjoyed reading, crocheting and genealogy research.
Mrs. Estes was a devoted wife, mother, daughter and grandmother whose life revolved around her family and church. She is survived by her children, Marshall Wade Estes and daughter-in-law, Sandra, and Joan Estes Tierce; grandchildren, Vernon Marshall Rodgers (Lindsay), Ginger Putman Stephenson, Ashley Putman Haley (Kory); and great-grandchildren, Vernon Marshall Rodgers, II, Braxton Person, Robby Stephenson, Devin Haley and Sara Beth Haley. She also leaves her personal caregiver, Dorothy Connelly. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jap Wade Estes; her parents, Marshall and Louise Dunn; and a sister, Mary Ethel Dunn Rogers.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to her church, Sparta United Methodist Church, PO Box 157, Holcomb, MS 38940.
