Mr. Ernie Gary Skelton, 77, of Grenada, passed away Friday, October 24, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital–North Mississippi in Oxford. He was born December 23, 1947, in Carroll County to Clifford Carl Skelton and Ruby Lee Huffman Skelton.
Ernie was a Christian and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather ("Papa"). He worked as a truck driver for more than 30 years, many of those years with Lewis Grocery Division/SuperValu. He and his beloved wife, Rose, were successful business partners, owning and operating Grenada Trading and Pawn and Grenada Furniture Company.
Ernie loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing in his younger years. He was also passionate about discussing the Bible and sharing stories with his children and grandchildren. Known for his homemade pickles and pepper sauces, he loved cooking for his family and sharing his creations with friends and loved ones. His loyalty, kindness, and deep love for his family and friends will be cherished forever.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada with Bro. Richard Flautt officiating. Interment will follow in Moore's Memorial Cemetery in Carroll County. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Rose Skelton Haley (Neil) and Mindy Carol Skelton, both of Grenada; five grandchildren, Madison Gray-Rose Haley, Lindsey Diane Skelton Tartt (Tyler and son, JC), Gary Keith Davis (Trista), Angelo Kol Skelton, and Maci Nicole Kent; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Rose Mullen Skelton; and seven brothers, Carl, Johnny, Lynn, Robert, Mack, Jerry, and Myron Skelton.
Pallbearers will be Gary Keith Davis, James Neil Haley, Kevin Skelton, Maci Kent, Tyler Tartt, and Christian Wolfe. Neal Monk and Dr. Keith Stanford will serve as honorary pallbearers.
