IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gladys
Lancaster
November 30, 1927 – September 5, 2022
Gladys Colston Lancaster, better known as "That Mama," of Duck Hill, was welcomed to her eternal heavenly home on Monday, September 5, 2022, at UMMC-Grenada, surrounded by her loved ones. She was 94 years old and born on November 30, 1927, in Holly Springs, MS, to the late Walker and Lucille Henderson Colston.
That Mama graduated from Binford High School and furthered her education at Draughon's Business College of Jackson, Mississippi. She worked at Duck Hill Bank for many years, but spent most of her years mentoring young women at Duck Hill Baptist church where she faithfully served the Lord for 75 years as a Sunday School teacher and choir member.
That Mama loved spending time with her family, walking around the block with best friends, having 3 p.m. coffee time, frying chicken, and shopping for anything – especially shoes. She often said, "I never met a shoe I didn't like." She also enjoyed and loved watching the Lady Chargers softball team. Most importantly, she loved worshiping her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She always had a hop to her step, a smile on her face, and joy in her heart. Her joy was contagious, and she wanted everyone she met to know the Lord personally. She was truly His angel here on earth.
That Mama is preceded in death by her husband, Archie Devere Lancaster; son, Daniel Ray Lancaster; nephew, Glenn Robinson; parents; sisters, Mary Julia Colston Deaton, Dorothy Colston Stuvee, and Golie Colston Robinson. She is survived by her children, Alan D. (Devo) Lancaster (Rosemary) and Tammy Lancaster Vance (Bubba); her grandchildren, Leslie Walker Lancaster and Abby Ray Vance; her nieces and nephews, Betty Ward Beard (Larry), Butch Ward (Bea), Sonja Ward Brown (Bob), Joey Deaton, Susie Stuvee Morgan (Greg), Kris Kirk (Carolyn), and Bruce Robinson (Kathy).
That Mama leaves behind a strong legacy of faith that is surely to be admired.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Duck Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Buchanan officiating. Interment will follow in the Duck Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 PM Wednesday evening at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service Thursday at Duck Hill Baptist Church.
