Obituary

Gloria Ann Scarberry Funderburg of Elliott went to her heavenly home on October 15, 2021, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Oxford, surrounded by her family.  Gloria's career was with Pennaco, The Daily-Sentinel Star in sales, Otasco as bookkeeper, Pearl and Lowensteins as bookkeeper,  Kenwin's Dress Shop as manager, owner of Elliott General Store, and Best Western Motel as general manager. During these years she was a member of Pilot Club of Grenada; Tourism Committee of the Chamber of Commerce; and Professional Business Women of Grenada, where she was named Professional Business Woman of the Year.

Gloria and her husband fostered and loved 16 children. Fosters that became family, call her Mom, and lovingly keep in touch are Marilyn Little, Toni Colvin, Eddie Lott, and Ricky Sisney.  Gloria had a passionate interest in Very Special Arts in Mississippi. As a creative and artistic person, she wanted to make sure that art was available to everyone. Another passion was working in her garden and yard. In Elliott Gloria organized a Red Hats Club that she enjoyed attending and socializing with the members for many years.

She always loved being around people to have fun with them, to counsel them, to give them a tract, or to share the love of Christ with them. She was an active member of Elliott Baptist Church where she served as a member of the Missionary Committee, as chairperson of the Cookbook Committee, and in many other capacities throughout the years. Being a great cook from a family of great cooks, she felt the need to prepare a cookbook of recipes from the great cooks of Elliott Church.

Gloria was born January 20, 1945, in McComb to Vivian Lorena McMillan Scarberry and George Scarberry; both parents preceded her in death.

She is survived by Jerone Funderburg, her husband of 60 years; a daughter Cindy Funderburg of Elliott; sisters Brenda Scarberry Norris (Charles) of Elliott, Judy Scarberry of Atlanta, Georgia; brother Waymon Scarberry (Margaret) of Grenada; 12 nieces and nephews and numerous great and great great nieces and nephews; 16 foster children including Marilyn Little, Toni Colvin, Eddie Lott, and Ricky Sisney; special friends Beverly  McGuire of Jackson, Colin Lea of Oxford, and Lacy Lea of Oxford; and many beloved friends and family.

Funeral services will be held at 5:00 PM Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Elliott Baptist Church officiated by Brother Michael Payton.  A sunset burial will follow in the Elliott Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary from 3:00 PM until service time Sunday.

Pallbearers will be Robbie Clifton, Al Hankins, Richard Hood, Keith McGee, Matt McGee and Mike Woods.

Memorials can be directed to Elliott Baptist Church, 566 Nat G. Troutt Road, Grenada, MS 38901, or organization of your choice.
