Gloria Norris Pomeranz, 86, passed away on February 15, 2024 in New York City. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carmel and Mary Ella Norris, her sister, Sylvia Norris King, nephew, Allen Lanier King, Jr., and great nephew Jayden Eaves.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Gary Pomeranz, and nieces Olivia (Donald) Stewart of Winder, GA, Pam(Jeff) Williams, Gloria (Steve) Hastings, both of Chattanooga, TN, great nephew Tony (Sharon) Stewart, Pyeongtaek South Korea, great nieces Lisa (Tommy) Boyd of Hoschton, GA, Mary (Dean) Dial of Chattanooga, TN and their children, Evan Stewart, Olivia Boyd and Kinzie Eaves Dial. She is also survived by a sister in law, Barbara Kantoff, and nephew Howard Kantoff.
She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Southern Mississippi and obtained her Master's Degree from Ohio State University. A celebrated author, she published three books, The Working Mother's Handbook, (co-authored by Jo Ann Miller), Looking for Bobby and Highway 51. She also wrote several short stories which appeared in The Sewanee Review. She received the O. Henry Award for Three Stories, an anthology.
Also, Gloria was the Editor in Chief of the Book of the Month Club. She served on the literary board of the club. In addition, she was listed as one of "America's 100 Most Important Women" in 1983 in the Ladies' Home Journal and The Mississippi Woman of the Year in 1986.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, February 23, 2024 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada. Interment will follow in the Holcomb Cemetery. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service Friday at McKibben and Guinn.
