IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gregory Moreau
Johnston, Jr.
November 23, 2000 – November 16, 2025
Gregory Moreau Johnston, Jr., 24, of Madison, Mississippi, passed away on November 16, 2025, due to a single vehicle accident near Vicksburg. He was born to Gregory Moreau Johnston, Sr. and Michelle Scott Johnston in Jackson, Mississippi. From the very beginning Gregory was always full of excitement and surprises. His parents were headed to the Egg Bowl, but Gregory decided to arrive three weeks early on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2000, so they had to turn around and hurry back to Jackson. Gregory attended Jackson Academy from 2003 until his high school graduation in 2019. He worked in the family construction business and later formed his own company Apex Construction and Land. Gregory was a skilled heavy equipment operator and loved working with his hands and interacting with his clients. From an early age he showed a strong aptitude for all things mechanical. He spent many happy times with his friends working on diesel trucks, four wheelers, and dirt bikes.
Gregory loved the outdoors, was an avid fisherman and hunter, and became an excellent snowboarder during his family's annual Spring Break trips to Snowmass, Colorado. He and his brother Harrison would often race each other down the slopes, oftentimes resulting in injury to one or the other. He greeted everyone he met with the biggest, warmest smile and charming personality. He was known by so many for his politeness, zest for life, and sense of adventure. He never met a stranger and left an indelible mark on all those he encountered. Any place he visited was left brighter because he had been there. He was a devoted father, son, brother, and friend who loved deeply those who were blessed to share life with him. His proudest accomplishment was his ten-month-old son, Rhodes Harris Johnston, to whom he was a loving father. He also loved his yellow Lab Ace who could be often be seen riding in the bed of Gregory's truck around Madison and who wanted nothing more than to always be by Gregory's side.
Gregory surrendered his life to Christ on March 31, 2009, when he prayed to accept Jesus into his heart. He publicly professed his faith on Easter Sunday, April 11, 2009, when he was baptized by his father at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison. In recent years Gregory continued to nurture his walk with the Lord at The Seekers Bible Study whose members greatly encouraged him. His eternal salvation secure, Gregory now resides in heaven.
Gregory is survived by his son Rhodes Harris Johnston and Rhodes' mother Annie Jean Frazier of Madison, his parents Gregory M. Johnston, Sr. and Michelle S. Johnston of Madison, his brother, Harrison S. Johnston of Madison, his grandparents Brent L. Johnston, Sr. (Cynthia, deceased) of Madison, and Donald and Julia Scott, of Southaven, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends, and his beloved dog Ace. A family burial service will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, in Grenada, Mississippi. A celebration of Gregory's life will be held at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison on Thursday, November 20, 2025, with visitation from 9 am until 11 am and the service to follow at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Broadmoor Baptist Church or In His Steps Ministries.
