IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hank
Sims
February 25, 1943 – September 21, 2022
Charles Henry "Hank" Sims, a recent resident of Haines City, Florida, passed on to be with his Heavenly Father on September 21, 2022 in Mississippi while traveling to visit with friends and family. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Linda Burke Sims; three children, Victoria Sims Duncan of Emmett, Idaho, Kelly Sims Marshall of Midlothian, Virginia, and Chad Michael Sims of North Padre Island, Texas. He is also survived by his five adored grand-children, his sister, Lora Etta Rainey, his brother, Lester Daniel Sims, and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Sims and his parents, Lee and Edith Sims.
"Hank" was born on February 25, 1943, in Smithville, Missouri. He graduated from Smithville High School in 1961 and went on to graduate with a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri in 1965. He worked for IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY. He then earned a Master's Degree in industrial engineering from Texas A&M University in 1968. After retiring from a career in logistics for the federal government, Hank started Sims Construction Company and was a Class A contractor. He always liked to stay busy, especially with woodworking projects. He completed many home improvement projects for himself and for others, in addition to larger projects including building five custom houses. His ingenuity in designing an energy-efficient home in the 1980's melded his engineering knowledge and innovative drive. The inventiveness he demonstrated in this massive project was impressive to all who saw the home.
He loved to be outdoors, either while working or relaxing. He enjoyed the beach, snow skiing and water skiing, boating and fishing, gardening, playing golf and tennis, and especially enjoying the warm weather. He and Linda decided to move to Florida to experience the warmer temperatures that allowed for more time outdoors. He carried on his family's tradition of playing cards and games in his free time.
Hank was an avid reader, especially books about historical non-fiction and conservative topics. He was a patriot, committed to the preservation of our Constitutional rights. His passion for this subject was a defining trait for him. He loved a good debate, and despite his staunch conservative views, he liked to hear from those with opposing views in order to hear all sides of a topic. This interest inspired him to write and publish books on the subject with a goal to educate others and make an effort to preserve freedom. He also was knowledgeable in the study of genealogy, and was a passionate family historian, always with a good story to tell. He wrote several books on family history in order to pass on these stories.
He was a quiet Christian, with a personal connection to God that was life-long and committed. He showed his dedication to others through acts of service, volunteering with Samaritan's Purse, disaster relief, and projects for those in need. He was a reserved man with strong convictions and a gentleness that was most apparent when he was with his grandchildren or in quiet moments with his wife. His was a life well-lived that focused on family, service, and learning, with a constant presence of calm wisdom and dry humor. He will be missed.
