IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harold Dexter
Hutchison, Sr.
April 29, 1928 – September 11, 2020
Harold Dexter Hutchison, 92 years of age, a truly loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend passed away Friday, September 11, 2020, at the home of his daughter, Cindy.
Harold was born on April 29, 1928, in Cleveland, MS. Harold served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1974 where he met his lovely wife Ann. They were both stationed in Fort Lee, VA. Harold and Ann married in January of 1953 in Petersburg, Virginia and were together until her passing in 2014.
Harold served in the National Guard from 1974 until 1984. Harold Hutchison, 155th Infantry during the period 22 June 1981 to 15 October 1983 distinguished himself as a Production Recruiter by establishing a recruiting program that increased the assigned strength of the units to a level that had not been attained in years. Exhibiting initiative, sound judgement, aggressiveness and a strong desire to excel as a recruiter, SFC Hutchison contributed immeasurably to the accomplishment of the recruiting mission. He related well to all ages, therefore, was able to talk with groups from high schools, colleges, and civic organizations. He has an exceptional personality that allowed him to get into organizations that otherwise would not have been receptive to our recruiting effort. He has worked many extra hours preparing for lectures, preparing enlistment records and interviewing prospective members at night and on weekends. SFC Hutchison was in constant contact with counselors at schools in the area to take advantage of any opportunity to visit the schools and talk with students. SFC Hutchison received the state quarterly award for most non-prior enlistments in 1982 and 1983 and all enlistments in 1982. He was awarded the State Diamond Club award for enlisting 76 men during 1982. He was awarded the Mississippi Commendation medal in 1982 for distinguished service and accomplishments. He also was awarded "Recruiter of the Year" his first year as a recruiter. SFC Hutchison provided outstanding recruiting service for this battalion and the Mississippi National Guard during the three years that he was a recruiter.
Harold found joy in directing the choir at Grace Methodist Church in Grenada, MS where he was a charter member. He worked at Liberty Supermarket as a butcher. He was an avid fisherman, the best crappie fisherman around Grenada. Harold was seen on the Grenada Spillway rocks every chance he was given. After retiring, he worked at Spain's Supermarket as a bookkeeper. The rest of his spare time was spent driving Ann to Walmart and to visit their children. As many would know, Ann was the talker and Harold was the driver. Harold enjoyed investing his time in his children, grand and great-grand-children.
A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at Grenada Memorial Gardens at 11:00 AM Monday, September 14, 2020 where he will be laid to rest by his wife Ann and his brother Gaiden.
Missing him will be: his children Harold Hutchison Jr. (Cathy) of Corinth, Cindy Holland (Charlie) of Holcomb, Denise Mabry (Ricky) of Grenada, and Jerry Lee Hutchison (Lynette) of Kinder, LA.
Harold is leaving behind a large family of 9 grand-children, Reid Hutchison, Cliff Hutchison, Hayden Hutchison, Taylor Holland, Julianna Holland, Leigh Ann Beck, Crystal Flautt, Chris Hutchison and Thomas Wayne Hutchison; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Alex Flautt, Richard Flautt, Taylor Holland, Chris Hutchison, Cliff Hutchison, Hayden Hutchison, Reid Hutchison and Thomas Hutchison.
