Mr. James Henry Carpenter, 73, of Madison, formerly of Grenada, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2025. He was born August 14, 1951 in Grenada to Henry Edward and Mary Frances Nail Carpenter. James Henry was a graduate of Binford High School and Holmes Community College. He retired as General Manager at Kirk Auto Co. in Grenada where he enjoyed a career spanning over 40 years. James Henry honorably served in the Mississippi Army National Guard and was a member of Old Rice Road Baptist Church. He and his wife, Sallie, were also Charter Members of Grace Baptist Church in Grenada and were very active prior to their move to Madison. James Henry enjoyed studying his Bible and loved to text his daily devotionals to his friends and loved ones each day. He also enjoyed watching old Westerns on TV. James Henry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Grace Baptist Church in Grenada with Dr. Kevin Jackson and Rev. Mark Nail officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from noon until service time Thursday at Grace Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Sallie Trussell Carpenter; mother, Frances Nail Hunter of Sumter, SC; daughter, Lyndi Carpenter Rives(Scott) of Madison; son, James H. "Jay" Carpenter, Jr. of Oxford; brothers, Timothy and Jeff Hunter of Sumter, SC; grandchildren, Walker and Emily Rives of Madison; and a special aunt, Willie Paul DuBois of Grenada.
James Henry is preceded in death by his father and his beloved grandparents who raised him, Onie and JJ Nail.
Charles Ashley, Cannon Kirk, Scott Kirk, Walker Rives, Randy Sweet and Charlie Whitfield will honor James Henry by serving as pallbearers and carry him to rest in the Woodlawn Memorial Park. Dynamite Kirk will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
