James Ray Hardin's Obituary

James Ray Hardin, age 76, was born on September 15, 1949, in Calhoun City, Mississippi. He passed away peacefully on Good Friday, April 3, surrounded by his loved ones until the very last moment. James Ray was married for 46 years to Elizabeth Joy Hardin, and together they built a family that became his greatest pride and joy.

Although he grew up in the Calhoun City area, James Ray made his home in Grenada, Mississippi. He was a dedicated appliance repairman for more than 30 years, faithfully serving families throughout Grenada, the surrounding counties, and even into Memphis. He was known for his strong work ethic, his ability to fix just about anything, and his willingness to help anyone in need. In his later years, James Ray discovered a passion for finding vehicles, restoring them, and reselling them. He simply loved finding things, fixing them up, and giving them new life. Whether it was an appliance, a vehicle, or someone needing a helping hand, James Ray was always ready to step in and make things better.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 6:00 PM Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service with Rev. Eugene Heimbach officiating. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service Tuesday at McKibben and Guinn.

James Ray is survived by his two sons, Steve (Mary Anne) Hardin of Grenada and Jason (Ricki Jean) Hardin of Grenada; three grandchildren, Brandon (Theresa) Hardin of Bellevue, Nebraska, Emily (Lee) Palmer of Grenada, Mississippi, and Luke Wade Hardin of Grenada/Magee, Mississippi; and three great-grandchildren, Beaux Henry Hardin, Addison Claire Palmer, and Ricky Lee Palmer III, with a fourth great-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by his brother Terry (Pam) Bounds of Calhoun City; two nieces, Morgan Bounds of Austin, Texas, and Sherry McMahan-Wells of Big Creek, Mississippi; along with extended family and many friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ruth Goodson Bounds and Jamie Hardin, and his sister, Shirley Ann Firmin.

James Ray leaves behind a legacy of hard work, resourcefulness, generosity, and love for his family. His hands were rarely still, and his heart was always willing.
