Jean Stokes Molpus Harbin, 82, a resident of Grenada, Mississippi, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016. Jean was born in Dekalb, Mississippi on January 16, 1934, and attended school in the Cleveland Community and after graduation attended East Mississippi Community College in Scooba, Mississippi, where she played basketball.
She was preceded in death by her parents Tommy and Irene Stokes, a brother, Parker Stokes, and grandson John Clark Molpus. She is survived by her husband of 36 years Roy Alderman Harbin of Grenada Mississippi, brother Forrest Delane Stokes of Dallas TX, her four children, Wanda (Molpus) Shaw (Chad) Houston, TX, John Molpus (Becky) of Collierville, TN, Fred Molpus (Sandy) of White Sulphur Springs, WV, and Robert Molpus (Beth) of Oxford, MS, grandchildren, Karen (Molpus) Strausser (Blake) and Matthew Molpus, and great-grandchildren Lillian Aiken, Hank Aiken, Mallory Molpus and Archer Strausser and beloved cat of 18 yrs, Lucy.
Jean was employed at the Grenada County Courthouse at one time and also volunteered as a poll worker for local and national elections for many years. Jean had a generous heart, a loving nature, and enjoyed taking pictures, traveling, gardening and collecting antique baby dolls. She was also an avid bowler and was honored in 2014 for participation Mississippi State bowling tournaments for 50 continuous years. She also participated in 23 national tournaments. She once said that good times spent with family and good friends were what she enjoyed most which was apparent in every area of her beautiful life.
Her family will celebrate her life at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Grenada, Mississippi, where she and Roy were members for 33 years, on Saturday, June 18, 2016, with visitation beginning at 9:30 am and the memorial service beginning at 11:00 am. She will be laid to rest next to her parents in the Clark Chapel Church Cemetery in Dekalb, MS.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, Tennessee(901-227-7123), Emmanuel Baptist Church, Grenada, Mississippi, or to the donor's charity of choice.
