Obituary

Wanda Jean Beckett Willis

April 22, 1934 – October 23, 2026

Jean Beckett Willis, 92, of Grenada, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2026, surrounded by her family, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of faith, family, service, and quiet generosity.

Born April 22, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Alfred Beckett and Vallie Agnes Burgess Beckett of Bruce, Mississippi. Raised alongside five brothers, Jean developed the strength of character, discipline, and deeply held principles that would define her throughout her life.

Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Thomas Willis Sr., who passed away on August 25, 2006. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and devotion to one another.

A woman of unwavering convictions and strong Christian faith, Jean was an active and devoted member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada. Her faith was the foundation upon which she lived her life, guiding both her actions and her relationships with others. She believed in doing what was right, treating people with kindness, and helping wherever there was a need.

Jean devoted her professional career to healthcare, serving as the Chief Laboratory Technician at Grenada Hospital. Through her work, she played an important role in the care and well-being of generations of patients in her community. She approached her responsibilities with the same dedication, precision, and integrity that characterized every aspect of her life.

Her commitment to service extended well beyond her profession. Jean was an active member and leader of both the Pilot Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), serving in numerous leadership capacities, including president of both organizations. She gave generously of her time and talents, believing that service to others was both a responsibility and a privilege.

Jean also had a lifelong passion for genealogy and history. For her, researching family history was about far more than names and dates. She delighted in discovering the stories behind the generations, exploring the places they had lived, and meeting people whose lives were connected through shared ancestry. She understood the importance of preserving those stories and the connections between past and present.

Those who knew Jean knew her as a woman of strength, determination, and principle, but also of extraordinary generosity. She was always willing to help someone in need, often in ways known only to the person she helped. She never sought attention or praise for her kindness. Quietly and without fanfare, she simply took care of people. It was not something she did for recognition; it was simply who she was.

Of all the roles she held throughout her life, none was more important to Jean than that of mother and Grandmother. To her family, she was a constant source of strength, love, and reassurance. No matter where life took them or what circumstances they faced, they knew they could always come home. Her door was open, her love was unwavering, and her family knew that, above all else, she would always be there for them.

She instilled in her family the values by which she lived: faith in God, strength of character, discipline, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to those you love. Her influence will continue to be felt through the generations who were blessed to call her their own.

Jean is survived by her two sons, Robert Dwayne Willis (Misty) and Jack Thomas Willis Jr. (Cindy); six grandchildren, Colby Willis White (Brad), Haley Willis Middlebrook (Josh), Jack Thomas Willis III (Jessica), Robbie Willis Wilson (Kyle), Hannah Willis Wilson (Evan), and Gracie Willis; and a host of beloved great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her five brothers, Frederick E. “Fred” Beckett, James William “Sport” Beckett, the Rev. Billy Joe “Bill” Beckett, Dr. Sidney Dwayne Beckett, and T. A. Beckett.

Jean lived a life of purpose, conviction, and service. Her legacy is found not only in her professional accomplishments and contributions to her community, but in the countless lives she touched through simple acts of kindness, the history she helped preserve, and the family she loved so dearly.

The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude to Jean’s wonderful caregivers for the compassion, kindness, and loving care they provided. Their dedication was a tremendous comfort and blessing to both Jean and her family.

Following a service celebrating her life on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., Jean was laid to rest. Though her earthly journey has come to an end, her family finds comfort in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. The example she set, the values she passed down, and the love she gave so freely will remain a lasting gift to those who knew and loved her.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Brad White, Carter Willis, Jack Thomas Willis, III, and Kyle Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers were Aeneas Middlebrook, Barrett Kimmel, Jack Kimmel, Robert Kyle Wilson, Asa Wilson, Rhett Wilson, Micah Wilson, Benjamin Wilson and Members of the Grenada DAR.
