Mr. Jerry Clyde Boyette, 79, of Elliott, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Tallahatchie General Extended Care Center in Charleston. He was born April 2, 1937 in Bolivar County to Houston and Mary Elvira High Boyette. He was a member of Elliott Baptist Church. Mr. Boyette served in the U.S. Army National Guard for 25 years retiring in December of 1989 with the rank of Master Sergeant. During his military service he had no overseas duty time, but was mobilized for the Berlin Crisis in 1961 as well as the Ole Miss segregation incident in 1962. His family was voted National Guard Family of the Year in 1990. He was a diesel mechanic for many years being employed by Ford Tractor, Massey-Ferguson and International Harvester. He was employed by the Mississippi Delta Levee Board for 14 years as foreman for the Yazoo Pass station. He later worked as a security guard for the Northwest Mississippi Medical Center in Clarksdale under the auspices of the Coahoma County Sheriff's Department.
He loved his family and his Lord. During his lifetime he was a member of the Civitan Club of Clarksdale, the W5M CB Radio Club and the Dixie Dancers Square Dance Club. Since retiring in 1997, he spent most of his time working in his yard and in his wood shop.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Elliott Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Brinker officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mary Ruth Laxson Boyette; two daughters, Theresa Boyette Ashmore (Nelson) of Elliott and Annette Boyette Argent (Gary) of Parrish, AL; one son, Jerry A. Boyette (Lori) of Elliott; three sisters, Hazel Winter and Louise Mitchell, both of Lambert and Martha Ann Bell of Strayhorn; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren as well as his many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Anna Ruth Boyette and Mattie Pearl Watts; and five brothers, Leon, Gene, Brinson, Emmett and James Houston Boyette.
Pallbearers will be Bradley Easley, Blake Easley, Justin Blackwell, Jeremy Boyette, Vince Martin and Deon Henson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tyler Boyette, Terry Johnson and Thomas Boyette.
Memorials may be directed to the Elliott Baptist Church Building Fund.
