It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James (Jimmy) Lomax Jones. Jimmy passed away on June 9, 2026, at the age of 70, at his home in Grenada.

Born on June 18, 1955, in Grenada, Mississippi, Jimmy was the cherished son of the late James Lee Jones, affectionately known as Shorty, and Marie Chamblee Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved sister, Dorothy Marie Jones, whom he held close to his heart, as was evident in his weekly posts of her memory, and one niece Leslie Marie Harbin.

Jimmy's journey began in Grenada, where he graduated from Kirk Academy. He later moved to New Orleans and his love for the New Orleans Saints began. If you ever graced the doors of Lil’ Shorty’s BBQ, you saw those Saints everywhere.

Jimmy shared one son, James Justin Jones (Leslie), and one granddaughter Katelyn Melzer with Noreen Kessler. He also shared a special bond with his brother, Bill Jones (Sharon), and several nieces and nephews. Jimmy had a world of close friends who were more like family. Jimmy’s boisterous and chatty spirit made him a friend to everyone he met.

Though he experienced life's inevitable trials, Jimmy came to find peace and strength through God and wanted to help others find this same meaning through his daily devotional posts on social media. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hebron Baptist Church in honor of Jimmy to help cover memorial expenses. Such gifts would serve as a fitting tribute to a man who lived his life with compassion and generosity.

A public memorial service to celebrate Jimmy's life will be held at Hebron Baptist Church, 315 Hebron Church Rd, Grenada, MS, Saturday June 20th at 2:00 p.m. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. A private celebration will be held at a later date for the family.
