Obituary

Mr. James Richard “Jimmy” Shoemaker, 81, of Grenada, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2026 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford. He was born April 11, 1945 in Grenada to James Noah Shoemaker and Annie Lee Holmes Shoemaker. Jimmy honorably served our country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a multi-faceted man and enjoyed several different occupations during his working life. Jimmy served as a police officer, worked as a crane operator and also an ag pilot. In his later years he grew particularly fond of his cats and never turned a stray away.

A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, September 11, 2026 at the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Carroll County.

Survivors include his daughter, Rachael Fratesi of Cabot, AR; sister, Julianna Martin of Gore Springs and two granddaughters, Katelyn and Lily.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lucy Lee Wolford and a brother, Charles Allen Strahan.
