Obituary

Mrs. Peggy JoAnn Travis Blanton, 88, of Grenada, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi in Oxford, surrounded by the love of her family.

JoAnn was born July 1, 1938, in Ottawa, Arkansas, to Truman and Laura Childers Travis. From an early age, she carried a warmth and generosity of spirit that would touch everyone who knew her throughout her long, full life.

Above all else, JoAnn's faith in the Lord was the heartbeat of who she was. As a devoted and faithful member of Grenada Church of God, she didn't just attend—she poured her heart into her church family, delighting in opening her home to host get-togethers for her husband's youth Sunday school class. She believed that fellowship was best shared around a table, and there was rarely a gathering at the Blanton home that didn't end with everyone a little more full and a little more loved.

A devoted homemaker at heart, JoAnn took enormous pride and joy in bringing her family together, hosting large gatherings in her home where laughter, love, and her legendary cooking took center stage. Anyone who was fortunate enough to sit at her table knew that her chicken and dressing wasn't just a dish—it was an expression of her love, made with the kind of care that can't be rushed or replicated.

JoAnn also had a lighthearted, joyful side that brought her simple happiness—she dearly loved a good shopping trip, whether it was hunting for the perfect gift for a grandchild, treating herself to something special, or simply enjoying the outing itself. It was one of the small pleasures that always brought a smile to her face.

For more than seventy years, JoAnn stood faithfully by her husband Pete's side—not only as his cherished wife and helpmate at home, but as his steady partner in building Blanton Construction from the ground up. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to what love, faith, and partnership can accomplish over a lifetime together.

JoAnn leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, hospitality, and cherished memories that her family and friends will treasure forever.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Grenada Church of God with Pastor James McElroy and her brother, Dr. Charles Travis officiating. Interment will follow in the Grenada Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until service time Saturday at Grenada Church of God.
