Mr. Joe Morrison Byrd, 91, of Grenada, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center – Grenada.  He was born November 14, 1931 in Hamburg, AR to Edward Morrison and Lavern Morris Byrd.  The family later moved to Cleveland, MS where he graduated from Cleveland High School and enlisted in the US Navy serving 5 years during the Korean War.  He then attended Delta State University and graduated from Mississippi State University with an Engineering degree.  Following graduation from MSU, Joe married the love of his life, Betty Chaney.  He worked for Heatcraft for 37 years and after he retired, opened the Electric Shop.  He also did consulting engineer work for General Electric and taught several electrical classes at Holmes Community College.  Mr. Byrd was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church where he sang in the choir.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 29, 2023 at All Saints Episcopal Church in Grenada.  Interment will be at 11:00 AM Monday, January 30, 2023 at the Lee Memorial Park in Verona.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time Sunday at All Saints Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Betty Chaney Byrd and a host of cousins, friends and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John William "Bubba" Byrd(Sue).

Pallbearers will be Brent Brasher, Harvey Leslie, John Lake Merriman, Pat Merriman, Mike Nabors and Rick Wilbourn.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Giles Bounds, Devo Lancaster and Joe Woods.
