Joel Clifford Turnipseed, 83, of Grenada MS, went to his eternal home to be with his Lord on January 19, 2020 at his home surrounded by family. He leaves behind his wife, Mary Ruth Perry Turnipseed of 56 years, his daughter, Lisa Proctor of Bartlett, TN, and his grandchildren, Blake and Kayla Proctor. He is also survived by his brothers, Marvin (Frances) Turnipseed, Willmar, MN, Rodney (Helin) Turnipseed of Dallas TX, Alton (Betty) Turnipseed of Carrollton, his sister-in-law, Betty Turnipseed of Grenada, and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Joel was born October 19, 1936 in Jefferson MS, graduating from J.Z. George in 1954. He attended Holmes Jr. then moved to Indiana in 1956. He worked for Ford Stamping Plant Chicago Heights for 42 years as a welder repairman. Upon retirement in 1998, he and Mary Ruth moved back to their hometown Grenada. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed watching sports and loved having his grandchildren at their house. He was known for his kindness and helping others. He was a member of Enon Baptist Church. Joel was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Olin and Beatrice DeLoach Turnipseed, and his brother, Charles Lake Turnipseed and his sister-in-law Kathleen Turnipseed.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Enon Baptist Church on Carrollton Road, Grenada. Visitation will be from 12 pm to 2 pm. Funeral Services will begin at 2 pm. Interment will follow at Liberty Baptist Cemetery in Jefferson, Mississippi. Those wishing to celebrate Joel's life, can make a donation to the American Cancer Society in his name.
