Mr. John Kermit Ashley, 91, of Grenada, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at his residence.  He was born September 22, 1930 in Perrytown, Mississippi to Cage, Sr. and Lucy Evelyn Ogden Ashley. Mr. Ashley had worked for many years as a Plant Engineer at Rockwell.  He was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Grenada.  John was a volunteer at the Grenada Soup Kitchen and was an avid fisherman and hunter and was a lifetime member of Zero Hunting Club. John was a graduate of Mississippi State University and served our country in the United States Navy.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 30, 2021 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada with Rev. Daniel Herring officiating.  Interment will follow in the Ashley Family Cemetery in Crosby, Mississippi.  Family and friends will gather from 9:00 AM until service time Thursday at McKibben and Guinn.

Survivors include his daughter, Pamela Anne Ashley Chandler(Mike) of Grenada; two sons, Donald Ray Ashley, Sr.(Brenda) of Jasper, AL and Jon Stephen Ashley(Pat) of Oxford; six grandchildren, Phillip Michael Chandler, Donald Ray Ashley, Jr., John Thornton Ashley, Amanda Leigh Ashley, Stephanie Elizabeth Ashley Glover and Mallory Magen Chandler McCormack; and his sister, Virginia McFatter of Hattiesburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janie T. Ashley; brothers, William Norris Ashley and Cage "CJ" Ashley, Jr. as well as his sister, Frances "Mutt" Whitehead.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the First United Methodist Church – Grenada or to the Grenada Soup Kitchen.
