Black, Jr.
Jan 30, 1961 — Jun 12, 2026
Carrollton
John Henry Black, Jr., died peacefully in his home south of Grenada on June 12, 2026. He was 65.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 2 at McKibben & Guinn Funeral Service, Grenada. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. with the service beginning at 3:30 p.m.
John was born in Greenville, MS, on January 30, 1961 to the late John Henry Black and Barbara Vaughan Black. His childhood home was in Marks,
MS, where he graduated from Delta Academy. He also attended Delta State University. He later joined in the family business with his father, John Black Construction Company, and worked for many years in the earth moving business. The family business moved from Marks to Grenada in 1992. In 1996 he became employed by the Modine company in Grenada, joining with the other 900 employees. He worked at the plant just two months shy of 30 years. While there he mastered many different jobs throughout the plant. This earned him the name the employees affectionately named him “Ole Man.” He was a faithful employee through eight different changes in management showing his value to this industry.
He had a love of hunting and fishing and greatly enjoyed watching the deer and the duck on his pond. He loved animals and always had dogs and had recently adopted the German shepherd siblings, Angel and Shadow.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jewel and Bill Vaughan, and Judge E.C. Black and Velora Black; and his parents, John and Barbara Black.
Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Debbie Black Fletcher (Cris) of Sardis; two nephews Joey Fletcher (Priscilla) of Madison, MS, and Vaughan Fletcher of Sardis; and two great-nephews, Fitzgerald and Wrigley Fletcher of Madison.
Donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Sardis Methodist Church, Hope Animal Sanctuary of Grenada, or to the charity of your choice.
