Mr. John Robert Kendall, 97, of Cascilla, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
He was born October 14, 1928, in Tallahatchie County, to sharecroppers Robert Winston Kendall and Fannie Mae Melton Kendall. From an early age, John Robert learned the value of hard work —a quality he carried with him throughout his life.
Mr. Kendall honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He was known for a strong work ethic and a steady determination that led him to keep working well into his 80s. He retired after a long and respected career at Randall Textron, and later continued to serve as a security guard on both river boats and at Modine.
John Robert truly enjoyed the simple joys of life—especially growing vegetable gardens each year. A follower of Jesus Christ, he attended North Church of God & Trinity Holiness Church, where his faith helped guide him in his daily life.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, July 4, 2026 at North Church of God(formerly North Shady Grove Church of God) with Pastors Eric Hess and Caleb Watson officiating. Interment will follow in the North Shady Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the hour of the service Saturday at The North Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Leora Kendall and Joetta Braddock; sister, Eunice Mae Winters(Roy); 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Estell, Bessie, Bernice(Dee), Lavonia and Alma; daughter, Johnna Sue Miller; sons, John Robert Kendall, Jr., Ira Winston Kendall, James William Kendall, Clarence Joseph Kendall and Gerry Austin Kendall; and brothers, Earnest, James and Paul Kendall.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Derel D. Franklin, Earl Franklin, Justin Franklin, Allen Kendall, Bryan Kendall, Johnny Lewallen, Johnny Lewallen, Jr. and Levi Washington. Dewayne Kendall will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
