Obituary

Mr. John D. Lamkin, 78, of Grenada, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at his residence. He was born May 24, 1939 in Montgomery County to John Harvey and Stella Mae Jacks Lamkin. John retired after working for over 45 years at Heatcraft as a Tool and Die Manager. He was a member and Deacon of Emmanuel Baptist Church and was also active in the Gideons. John enjoyed gardening and anything associated with the outdoors, however, he will be remembered most as a devoted Christian husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Clarence Cooper and Rev. Eugene Heimbach officiating. Interment will follow in the Oddfellows Cemetery in Grenada. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until service time Thursday at the church.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary Lamkin; son, Dwayne Lamkin and his wife, Martha of Grenada; daughter, Jennifer Lamkin Dickson of Grenada; grandchildren, Tyler Lamkin, Emily Lamkin, Hunter Dickson, Jacob Dickson and John Conner Dickson; one great-granddaughter, Rylee Dickson; three sisters, Pat Wagner and her husband, Dwayne of Stoystown, PA, Ouida Bennett of Tupelo and Peggy Sasser of Upper Marlboro, MD; one brother, Joe Lamkin of Leesburg, GA; in-laws, Charlie Long and his wife, Kathy of Dorsey, Buddie Long and his wife, Joyce of Mooreville, Tim Long and his wife, Pammie of Tupelo, Lynda Green and her husband, Davis of Dorsey, Virginia Langford and her husband, David of Tupelo and William "Snap" Lucius of Mooreville; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Ward Lamkin and Margaret Fultz; brother, Nathan Lamkin and a son-in-law, Dwayne Dickson.

Pallbearers will be Danny Aldridge, Gene Bell, Stephen Dorroh, Brad Fleming, Jerry Gilliland, Terry Hutchins, Pitt Kimbrough and Rodney Murphy. Honorary Pallbearers will be member of Dr. Tom Holden's Sunday school class.
