Obituary

Mr. John Lee Newman, 74, of Grenada, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2021 at his residence.  He was born July 8, 1946 in Tallahatchie County to Raymond Preston, Sr. and Gloria Crosswait Newman.  Mr. Newman was a route salesman for Lance for many years.  He made many friends and contacts in his travels across North Mississippi and the Delta.  Following a 25 year career with Lance, he enjoyed a number of years working in Sales at Shaw's Wholesale Meats in Grenada.  John was a member of the Enid Church of Christ.  An avid fisherman, John and his faithful dog, Bailey, visited Grenada Lake at least twice a day, even when the weather was inclement.  John's outgoing personality was one of his greatest attributes – he left a lasting impression with all those he came in contact with.  While we mourn this loss, we find comfort in knowing he is at peace in Heaven.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at the Bethel Cemetery in the Teasdale Community of Tallahatchie County with Bro. Raymond Aven officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Newman; his daughter, Natalie Patton(Ronnie) of Saucier, MS; his son, Kenney Newman of San Antonio, TX; step-daughter, Belinda Long of Grenada; two brothers, R.P. Newman, Jr. and William Newman(Sue) both of Tallahatchie County, MS; five grandchildren, Sabrina Swinford, Taylor Newman, Natalie Strong, Justin Robertson and Jennifer Dyess; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Audrey Newman.
