Obituary

Joy Stallings Lott, 71, of Grenada, MS, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018 at the University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham, with complications from Interstitial Pulmonary Fibrosis.

She was born on January 22, 1947, in Memphis, TN, to James and Lurlene Stallings. The family moved to Cascilla, MS shortly after she was born from the Batesville area. Joy graduated from East Tallahatchie High School, Charleston, MS, class of 1965. She then studied Business Management, Accounting, Elementary Education, and Mathematics at North West Junior College in Senatobia, MS. She continued her education in Business Management and Accounting at Holmes Community College in Goodman, MS and at the University of Maryland in Heidelberg, Germany.

Joy retired as a Supervisory Program Budget Analyst with the Department of Army Civilian.

Joy met Jesse Wayne Lott after her high school graduation when she was set up by her lifelong best friend Marion Joiner and, her future husband, John Paul Staten. They married on January 21, 1966.

She loved being an Army wife for 22 years of her marriage, especially the traveling and the opportunity to live in many great locations. Joy lived in Batesville, MS; Cascilla, MS; Fort Lewis, WA; Heidelberg, Germany; Savannah, GA; San Francisco, CA; Portland, OR; and Grenada, MS.

She enjoyed a full life, even skydiving for the first time in her mid-50s. Joy was well loved by her family and friends. She loved being a wife and mother, but her favorite was being a grandmother. 'Grams' (as she was called) cherished her grandsons, Jace and Jaxon, so much that she literally moved cross-country in 2014 to be near them, her daughter and son-in-law after her husband passed in 2012. She loved spending time with them and being intricately involved in their lives. 'Grams' was just as loved by Jace and Jaxon, who excitedly looked forward to spending their time with her.

A Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 19, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service with Rev. Kevin Tribble officiating. Graveside service will follow in Magnolia Gardens Cemetery, in Paynes, MS and will be officiated by Rev. John Goldwater. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at McKibben and Guinn.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 46 years, Jesse Wayne Lott.

She leaves behind one daughter, Jessica Joy Lott Corbett, and son-in-law, Christopher J. Corbett, of Grenada; two grandsons, Jace James Walker and Jaxon Joseph Corbett; two sisters, Peggy Raspberry of Jackson, TN, and Beverly White of Vicksburg, MS; and seven nieces and nephews and their families.

She was a long-time member and Deacon of Oak Hills Presbyterian Church in Milwaukie, OR, and a current member of Friendship Baptist Church in Grenada, MS.

Joy was very active with the National Republican Women's Association in Portland, OR and was a Delegate at the 2000 National Republican Convention in Philadelphia, PA.
