The Honorable Judge Jimmy Charles Tallant, 78, of Grenada, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.  He was born August 1, 1942 in Lambert.  Jimmy spent the first part of his working life as a merchant where he owned and operated The General Store in Grenada.  While Judge Tallant possessed excellent business acumen, his heart drew him to public service.  He faithfully served as a Deputy Sheriff in Grenada County for 18 years.  Judge Tallant made a profound impact in the Grenada Community by serving as a Justice Court Judge since 1992.  He was accredited through the National Judicial College and served on the Board of Directors for the Mississippi Justice Court Judges Association.  In his 28 years as a Judge, he set the standard for fairness and extended grace to many in their trying times.  He also served on the Board of Directors of the Elizabeth Jones Library.  After his first term in office, he founded Safe Security in Grenada and this business afforded him the opportunity to mold many young men into fine leaders and respectable gentlemen.  While there are many who mourn this great loss, we find comfort in knowing he has met the Ultimate Judge face to face and heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

A graveside service celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 8, 2021 at the Lambert Cemetery with Dr. Kevin Jackson officiating.  The body will lie in state from 1:00 – 6:00 PM Thursday at the Yalobusha River Rendezvous.  All social distancing guidelines will be observed and masks are required to attend either event.

Survivors include a brother, Billy D. Tallant of Grenada and three nieces, Sandra Tallant Stowers, Nicole Tallant and Stephanie Tallant Dykes.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Etoile Starnes Tallant Barker; father, Devoe Tallant and two brothers, Thomas Wayne Tallant and Steven Tallant.

Pallbearers will be Garrett Hartley, Matthew Tassin, Joe Ward, Charlie Whitfield, Coby Williams and Jack Willis.
