Julia Lake Cutler, 84, of Grenada, MS, passed away on July 30, 2021 at her home, peacefully, after a courageous fight with cancer. Her faith sustained her and she remained a source of joy and a beautiful inspiration to those blessed to love her.
Judie was born on May 15, 1937, in Bayside, Long Island, New York to John Caldwell Lake and Julia Loucks Lake. At the age of seven, Judie moved with her family to Grenada when her father became the President of Grenada Industries.
A 1955 graduate of John Rundle High School, Judie attended Mississippi College for Women where she was very active on campus as a College Singer and Editor of the Yearbook. Graduating in 1959 with a degree in Fine Arts, she used her artistic talents while employed in the advertising department at the Emporium in Jackson, Mississippi.
Prior to moving back to Grenada in 1973, Judie enjoyed raising her young daughters in Batesville, Mississippi where she was involved with the Garden Club, Batesville Art Mart, and active in the First Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. Living in Batesville was a sweet time in life, and Judie continued to cherish the life-long friends she made there.
Returning to Grenada, Judie enjoyed participating in all aspects of church life at All Saints Episcopal Church. She served as a devoted long-time Altar Guild Chairman, Vestry member, choir member, search committee member and loved participating in foyer groups, book club, and bingo at All Saints' House. She believed in the importance of mission and outreach, donating time and resources to the food pantry and St. Nicholas Treasure Chest.
She was an active member of the Daughters of the King Prayer Group and truly felt that her fellow church members were an extension of her family. She was grateful for their loving visits and uplifted by their heartfelt prayers during the last months of her life.
Civic minded, she was a dedicated DAR member serving as scholarship chairman, treasurer, and Regent. She cared about the needs of others and for years was a mentor for students at Grenada Elementary School. After retiring from the Grenada Lake Visitors Center, Judie stayed busy as a member of the GLMC Ladies Hospital Auxiliary, as a buyer for the hospital gift shop and a 20/20 Financial Partner Member.
Judie was an avid reader and enjoyed book club discussions and also traveled extensively with many wonderful friends and family members. She shared the joy of traveling with her beloved grandchildren, who cherish special memories of their precious "Mimi."
Judie was known and loved as a true southern lady who depended on her Lord and shared her faith by example. She exhibited courage, strength, and a deep faith, maintaining her joy in spite of great challenges. She leaves a legacy of faith and love.
She is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Bounds and her husband, Sam of Brookhaven, MS, and Julie Farrell and her husband, Jake of Germantown, TN, grandchildren, Sarah Merriman, Patrick Merriman, John Lake Merriman, and Caroline Farrell, her sister, Libby Lewis and her husband, Leighton, and her sister, Jo Pugh, six nieces and nephews and her much loved four-legged companions, Sassy and Patches.
Judie's family extends a special thank you and deep gratitude to Adoration Hospice and to Mrs. Wanda Kay Jones, her loving caretaker and friend.
