Mr. J.W. Blakely, 89, of Grenada, passed away Friday, January 29, 2016 at Grenada Living Center. He was born January 7, 1927 in Montgomery County to William Henry and Josephine Lishman Blakely. Mr. Blakely retired as Superintendent of the Grenada Water Department, a World War II US Navy Veteran, a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner where he had recently received recognition for 50 years of service. He was a Baptist.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Woodlawn Memorial Park with Dr. Jim Nunnelee officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Saturday evening at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada.
Survivors include two sons, James W. "Jimmy" Blakely and his wife, Nell of Brandon and Charles D. "Donnie" Blakely and his wife, Lorie of Grenada; one sister, Doris Andrews of Gulfport, MS; two brothers, Caruthers Blakely of Tupelo and Leroy Blakely of St. Louis, MO; six grandchildren, Deidra Schmidt, Brett Blakely, Megan Fleming, Ian Blakely, Steven Blakely and Jessica Greer; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esta M. Blakely and two sisters.
