Obituary

Kenneth Allen of Jackson, MS, known by family and friends as Bill, passed away from Alzheimer's on Friday, March 9, 2018 at the age of 89. Bill was born in Carroll County, MS on February 12, 1929 to Lensy J. and Montora Allen. Bill served in active duty in the army during the Korean Conflict in 1951 and 1952. He graduated from Mississippi State in 1953, and married his wife of 63 years, Allene, in 1954. He retired from the USDA Cotton Division after 30 years of service.

Bill was known for his sense of humor and love for people, especially his family. Even with the loss of his short-term memory, Bill was able to make the people around him laugh, in spite of not being able to follow the particulars of a conversation. He especially enjoyed making his caretakers and sitters (new audiences) laugh, which made them enjoy caring for him. He was a member of several Jackson-area coffee clubs, Live Oaks Country Club, and he was a regular attender of Pear Orchard Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Allene Allen, of Jackson; a sister, Frances Mullen of Magnolia, TX; two daughters, Diane Davis (Ken) of New Port Richey, FL and Susan Spencer (Clark) of Ridgeland; grandson Spencer Davis of New Port Richey; granddaughters Mary Clark Spencer and Allen Spencer, both of Jackson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his brother Clanton Allen and two sisters Margie Floyd and Joy Gray.

Visitation will be held at Pear Orchard Presbyterian Church in Ridgeland on Sunday, March 11 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 12, at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Grenada, MS. McKibben and Guinn Funeral Services (662-307-2694) in Grenada, MS will be handling the arrangements.
