Obituary

Mr. Larry Morgan Carson lived a long and meaningful life of 82 years.  He was born on December 29, 1942 in Grenada County to Earl Frank and Edna Morgan Carson.  He died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, March 23, 2025.  Larry was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Wayne Carson and William "Bill" Carson.

Larry was a United States Army Veteran serving from 1967-1969 and saw active duty in Vietnam from '68-'69.  Upon his return home, Larry joined the Jones and Laughlin Steel Service Center in Memphis, TN as a sales representative.  During his time at J&L Steel, Larry was the top sales representative, and in 1977 was inducted as a charter member of the division's "Number One Sales Club".  He was one of 10 sales reps chosen from the 250-member service center sales force for this honor.  In 1980, Larry joined with his former boss to form Delta Metals, Inc. of Memphis, TN.  He served as Vice-President and Sales Manager until his retirement in May of 2021.

Larry was a friend to all who knew him.  He knew the joy of many friendships and was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed the simple pleasure of caring for them.  Though a quiet and humble man, Larry taught by example how to love and care for others and each other.  Larry especially loved family gatherings and trips to the beach with his children and grandchildren.

Larry spoke loudly through the quality of his life.  He was always there for his children, supporting and coaching them in all their activities and sports.  In 1986, Larry was instrumental in bringing USTA/Volvo Tennis to Grenada.  He formed the first men's tennis team from Grenada Country Club, and in 1987 they were the District Champions, State Champions and Southern League Champions.  They then competed in Las Vegas, Nevada, where they placed third in the USTA/Volvo National Championship.  Through his many years of participation in youth sports and tennis, Larry is fondly referred to today as "Coach".  He also had a passion for Ole Miss Sports and was a season ticket holder to everything Ole Miss.

A cancer survivor for over 35 years, Larry proudly supported and raised money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  In dedication to the youth of the community, Larry was honored to serve as the 2012 Charity Ball King for Junior Auxiliary of Grenada.

Larry was happily married to Rebecca Tribble Carson for almost 51 years.  Together they created a loving home and a strong work ethic balancing home and work life.  He is survived by his wife, Becky and two children, Tara (Andy) Cote and Joel Linton Carson.  Larry leaves behind four grandchildren, Haley Morgan Cote, Linton Park Carson, Carson Thomas Cote and Logan Neff Carson.

Larry was a member of First Methodist Church in Grenada.  The funeral service will be held at First Methodist Church on Thursday, March 27, 2025.  Visitation will be from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM with the service immediately following.  Interment will follow in the Wayside Cemetery.
